Camp Mystic has been in the news of late. The camp owners have been seeking to reopen the camp for summer activities. All this following the terrible tragedy of the flood event that killed girls attending the camp and some camp counselors. Parents of the girls killed have sought to have the camp prohibited from reopening.
This article from Homeland Security Today, U.S. House Unanimously Passes Mystic Alerts Act to Require Emergency Preparedness includes the following, “U.S. Rep. August Pfluger, a Republican from the Panhandle, filed the Mystic Alerts Act to modernize the national emergency alert infrastructure by integrating satellite networks into the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system. The alert system is voluntary.” More information on the act is included in the article.
The next evolution in cellular/mobile phones is satellite connectivity, so it is very appropriate that the Congress take this action. Hopefully, the Senate will follow suit by passing a companion bill in quick order.
