U.S. States Most Exposed by Hazardous Materials Transport Incidents
The transportation of hazardous materials is a modern-day issue to be contented with. These materials are manufactured, stored and then transported via different transportation systems. This article provides some insights into the number of incidents by transportation type and where these incidents are happening by state. States that have major chemical industries and those with a large population seem to have the most incidents. An outlier in all of this is Alaska. Perhaps oil production there is the issue.

Speaking of costs, there is one anomaly identified in this report as to the cost by state. “Ohio’s outsized total is largely attributable to the February 2023 train derailment in East Palestine, a high-profile incident involving hazardous chemicals that triggered evacuations, long-term environmental remediation, and extensive federal and state response efforts.”
