fema council releases report calling for reform

Finally we have the FEMA Review Council’s report. From The NY Times, Trump Panel Calls for FEMA Overhaul

As noted in the article, some aspects of the recommendations will require congressional action. Perhaps that will happen, but I’m leery of the idea that what is being proposed in the report will ever be implemented. Starting something new is relatively easy when compared with ending programs like long-term housing support.

I have to laugh at this quote from the article, “FEMA’s assistance “should only be reserved for truly significant events,” said Kevin Guthrie, executive director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management. States should be less reliant on the federal government to pay for and guide their emergency management efforts, he said.”

Guthrie says that now, is that what he is going to say to the public when the next big hurricane hits Florida. “Sorry, no one is going to bail you out, and that is what “I” recommended.” Give me a break!

It sounds like Hamilton is maybe in line to be the next FEMA Administrator. Not the best option, but having the trust and support of the DHS Secretary will go a long way.
