telling it like it is
I could not find a citation for what fire chief said this recently before a crowd of people. I picked it up on LinkedIn. I find it refreshingly honest assessment for a community that could be threatened by wildfire.
"When a wildfire comes, my department won't be able to save your homes. We might be able to save a couple dozen, if we have the time and the resources and aren't saving lives or protecting the transformer from blowing up or defending the bridge so more aid can get here and only if your homes don't put my (wo)men in danger, but realistically we can't do a lot. There's 50 of us here in town and 1000 houses in the woods. Even with a lot of mutual aid, there might be 80 engines and 400 of us out here to protect the lives of 3000 people and 1000 houses. That's just not realistic. We'd need at least 5 times more resources. You're mostly on your own. God Bless."
That is what I call—“Telling it like it is!” Think twice about where you chose to live.
