you can't consider political preference in administering disaster aid

See this story from The Hill, Trump officials refer Biden-era FEMA staff to DOJ for potential criminal charges

This all stems from Hurricane Helen and accusations made about one supervisor telling her staff canvassing homes to avoid those with Trump signs on their property. The story above provides much more details and the fallout from those events.

One item I did pick up on was that the Secretary of Homeland Security has told the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to stop door-to-door canvassing after a disaster to educate disaster survivors as to their rights to federal assistance. The reason being that other means are available. That would be online and via phone. I do think taking the personal touch out of the outreach will leave some people out of the equation—since not everyone is plugged into media and public announcements.

And, I agree that this was not likely a widespread practice by FEMA in avoiding houses based on political affiliation. They did note the concern about homes announcing “guns” at this house.
