Federal Government Looking for Loyalists
Another sign of trouble in the federal government is highlighted in this article, Governmentwide hiring plan calls on agencies to recruit ‘patriotic Americans’ into federal workforce
When entering civil service, we all swear allegiance to the United State’s constitution. That is the guiding document that is our North Star for how we are to function as government employees.
From the linked article above, there is a list of potential questions federal job applicants are to answer:
“Under this hiring strategy, all federal job vacancy announcements graded GS-5 or above will require candidates to write four short essays, each 200 words or less:
“How has your commitment to the Constitution and the founding principles of the United States inspired you to pursue this role within the Federal government? Provide a concrete example from professional, academic, or personal experience.”
“In this role, how would you use your skills and experience to improve government efficiency and effectiveness? Provide specific examples where you improved processes, reduced costs, or improved outcomes.”
“How would you help advance the President’s Executive Orders and policy priorities in this role? Identify one or two relevant Executive Orders or policy initiatives that are significant to you, and explain how you would help implement them if hired.”
“How has a strong work ethic contributed to your professional, academic or personal achievements? Provide one or two specific examples, and explain how those qualities would enable you to serve effectively in this position.”
I’ve used essay questions as part of the application process. Typically, those were aligned to the specific job requirements, e.g., Outline your beliefs on what makes for an effective public education program. Stuff like that. The one’s listed are not any as I’ve ever seen before. Maybe number 4. Could be reworded to be something like, “Prove to us you won’t be a lazy good for nothing federal employee.”
From another story on FEMA there is this quote below from a long serving professional emergency manager in a senior position at FEMA.
From a CNN article on what is happening at FEMA, “Late last month, FEMA’s acting deputy administrator, MaryAnn Tierney – a widely respected veteran leader serving as the agency’s second-in-command – resigned, telling her staff that actions by the Trump administration had prompted her departure.
“Everyone has a line, and I have reached mine,” Tierney told her team in an email. “I will not be complicit in the dismantling of this Agency and while I would readily implement change, even radical change, the current approach lacks a clear end state or plan and has been done recklessly without regard to our current statutory or moral obligations to the American people. I also will not be a part of the intentional traumatization of our workforce. Based on my role, seniority, and place in the Agency my presence enables this.”
