climate change will bring political upheaval
Climate change will impact the world. There won’t be one area of the world that escapes its impacts, on sea, in the air and on land.
As noted in an earlier blog post, Pakistan and India have been in the news for the extreme flooding in recent days. See this NY Times article, Once a Source of Life and Renewal, Monsoon Brings Death to Pakistan
The United States military identified climate change as a force to bring instability in this world as more people are impacted by major disasters and there is much destruction and displacement of populations. It will cause pressures on governments to react.
As noted in the article linked above, “Aisha Khan, the executive director at the Civil Society Coalition for Climate Change, a Pakistani nonprofit, said the worsening floods could have severe social and political consequences. “If extreme weather keeps being an annual event, if it keeps hitting people so strongly and trapping them in a circle of perpetual poverty and misery, there will be upheaval,” she said.”
The bold text is my emphasis. These same events will impact people here in the United States. Insurance rates are already skyrocketing—if you can even get property insurance in high-risk natural disaster areas. There is a shortage of affordable housing and as more properties are taken out of the inventory due to disasters, that will only compound the situation
I don’t see “happy days are here again” as the tune people will be singing.
