What Zillow Won’t Tell You about hazards

The idea of home owners considering the risks that hazards present “before” they purchase a home is something I’ve covered repeatedly in the past. It should not be all about stainless steel kitchens, granite and a fenced backyard for the dog.

It was a pleasant surprise when some real estate firms started providing some hazard information for properties. No, it was not perfect, but it was a beginning. Now that has changed, see this New York Times article: What Zillow Won’t Tell You

Flood and wildfire risks were two primary hazards covered—that repeatedly caused significant damages to homes. That information has now been removed from Zillow’s website.

Apparently, someone’s ox was being gored financially and now those climate related risks are no longer highlighted. Eventually consumers will start demanding that those risks be identified before they make a purchase—but that day is not here yet.
