red states get more disaster and faster

It is not front-page news in newspapers or other news media. There is just too much news everyday that hogs not only the front page, but any coverage at all. Which brings us to this Politico article, It's 3 times harder for blue states to get disaster funding under Trump

It is a numbers game and the chart below is one that gives you most of the information you need.

Besides this chart, there is also news in the article about the time to get an answer about approval or disapproval for a request for a declaration, “Trump has taken 80 days on average to approve or deny requests from Democratic-led states — compared to 39 days for Republican-led states.”

Not specifically related to the above facts is this testimony today by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to Congress on March 25th, “A special federal fund used to pay for disaster relief and recovery work is down to $3.6 billion, Victoria Barton, a FEMA spokeswoman, told lawmakers. At that level, any storm or other emergency would “rapidly” deplete the account, Barton said. “We are crippling our disaster recovery and response abilities,” Barton told the House Homeland Security Committee.”

I don’t know the status of Hawaii making a request for a disaster declaration, but you can bet one is coming soon. Hawaii would be considered a “Blue State.”
