Calgary water main break
Another example for what the future will bring—infrastructure failing and putting a community in peril.
There is the immediate danger to people caught in the rush of water from a major waterline break, and then the extended shortage of water until there can be a temporary fix to the water line. See this story, Calgary Water Main Break
Note that this is not the first time that pipeline has had an issue in recent memory. The last “repair” cost $40M CN. As shared in the story, there is a known deficiency in the water line, and a permanent fix is needed—via a replacement.
I’ve written previously about how people know how to adapt to an electrical power outage, but a water shortage is another matter. Citizens have been asked to conserve water—but, don’t know how long that will go on.
All of this is but another example of what I call a “fix on failure” mentality. Instead of being proactive, they have a crisis that will maybe this time drive them to act decisively.
For the new Mayor…welcome to emergency management!
