idaho city deploying drones for law enforcement

I found this story of interest on several fronts. Check out, Meridian, Idaho, Launches AI-Powered Drones for 911 Response

One of the items that jumped out at me was this quote, “Instead of being deployed by officers already at the scene, these drones would be operated from afar and sent with the push of a button to calls throughout the city in minutes.” This means that they have a system for dispersing these drones geographically and sending them on a mission remotely. Likely this is being done elsewhere, but this is the first time I’ve had it documented in an article.

Then there is the fact that this is happening in the state of Idaho. Which is a pretty conservative state and sometimes that can translate to a perspective that while being supportive of law enforcement, people might not be similarly supportive of “spies in the sky” or however some might describe this deployment of drones.

Hopefully the police department and the elected officials there in Meridian socialize the use of drones before deploying them in the city.
