fema staff fighting back
These are brave men and women who signed a letter decrying all the changes being made at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). See this Washington Post article, FEMA staff warn Trump officials’ actions risk a Katrina-level disaster
Why in the world would an employee sign a letter with their name or anonymously if they feared they could be terminated? They do so because they care about the mission of FEMA and what it does for our nation. As noted in the article, other federal employees have been placed on administrative leave for doing the exact same thing. These people are in the realm of the hierarchy of Washington D.C. nobodies.
If you have followed events for the last seven months, the people holding these positions have been fired: Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Chief of Naval Operations; Commandant of the Coast Guard and most recently the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency. The most senior leadership positions for their respective services or function. So, when a “nobody” stands up for what is right, they have to know what they are doing. They have the courage that many in federal elected office lack today.
I put my job on the line back when I was serving in Washington State Emergency Management. I did not know what the outcome was going to be, but I knew what was right and what was wrong.
